Police Pension Scheme

Membership

As a regular Police Officer, you will have been automatically admitted to the 2006 Scheme on appointment, unless you decide to opt out. (Police Cadets and Special Constables have separate schemes which provide more limited benefits). If you were to opt out of the 2006 Scheme, you would subsequently re-join the 2015 Scheme from 1 April 2015.

It is possible for you to be a member of the 2006 Scheme and contribute to other pension schemes, such as a personal pension plan, at the same time. However, you are advised to consult an Independent Financial Adviser if you wish to obtain information regarding this option.

Approved part-time working is counted as pensionable service on a pro rata basis, based on actual hours worked as a proportion of full-time work. Your pension contributions are also collected on a pro rata basis. If you are a part-time Constable or Sergeant, any hours you work on top of your determined hours will be automatically pensionable.

Please Note

If you are thinking of opting out of the 2006 Scheme, it is strongly recommended that you seek Independent Financial Advice before making your decision.
