In-house AVC Options

Changes introduced from April 2015 give you freedom over how you can access your pension savings if you’re 55 or over and have a pension pot built up from contributions paid into a workplace pension (such as a defined contribution, money purchase or cash balance scheme).

As a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), you may also have an in-house Additional Voluntary Contribution (AVC) plan, which is categorised as a Defined Contribution (DC) arrangement, despite the LGPS being a Defined Benefit (DB) arrangement.

You are now able to transfer your LGPS benefits and in-house AVC plan independently of each other, rather than having to transfer all of your benefits under the scheme together (as was the case before 6 April 2015).
