Your contribution is 6% of the pay you receive. As the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) is set up by Statute, the payment of its benefits is guaranteed by law.
As a member of the scheme, you receive tax relief on the contributions that you make, as they are deducted from your allowances before you pay tax.
The Council then pays the balance of the cost of providing your benefits after taking into account investment returns. Every 3 years, an Independent Actuary calculates how much the Council should contribute to the Scheme.
