Fire Pension Scheme

Pensions are paid in advance in regular instalments by the Fire & Rescue Service (FRS) once they are satisfied that a person has entitlement to the award and subject to them having all the information they need. Lump sums by commutation are payable as soon as possible after the member's last day of service.

The FRS has discretion as to whom a minor's award will be paid but they must have assurance that it would be used for the benefit of the minor. Similarly, if payment is due to a person who has become incapable of managing his/her affairs, the FRS has discretion to pay it to another person as they think best.

If there has been a loss to the funds of the FRS because of fraud, theft or negligence on the part of a firefighter in connection with his/her employment, the authority may withhold all or any of the sum lost subject, in the event of dispute, to the order of a court.

• Income Tax

  Your annual pension is subject to PAYE - Income Tax. As the payment of your annual pension is administered by Carmarthenshire County Council (on behalf of the Fire & Rescue Service), the Authority is obligated to comply with the coding issued by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

  Upon your retirement, the tax coding previously applied will continue to be operated on a Month One basis and the HMRC will then be asked to supply the appropriate code.

  If your tax code is not known immediately, an emergency code will be used as a temporary measure, the emergency code is 1257L.

• Payment Dates - North Wales Fire & Rescue Service

  Your Annual Pension from the FPS 1992 is paid in advanced, per calendar month, directly into your Building Society or Bank account, which ensures that it is credited to your account on the due date for payment.

  Your monthly pension benefit for 2024/25 will be paid as follows:

  Please Note

  If you have registered to the My Pension Online service, you will NOT receive paper copies of your payment advise slip or pension increase statement in April, as this information is readily available online.

  Your Annual Pension from the FPS 1992 is paid in advanced, per calendar month, directly into your Building Society or Bank account, which ensures that it is credited to your account on the due date for payment.

• Changing your Address

  Even when you start to receive your pension, we still need to keep an up to date record of your home address, so please let us know if you move house. Without this, we are unable to issue you with a payment advise slip, pension increase statement or the annual Dyfed Pension Fund newsletter.

  This can be done easily within your My Pension Online account, or you can notify the Fund in writing.

• Changing your Bank Account Details

  Your annual pension is paid per calendar month directly into your bank account via BACS transmission.

  As the payment of your annual pension is administered by Carmarthenshire County Council (on behalf of the Fire & Rescue Service), the authority receives a number of calls from pensioners wishing to change their bank or building society account details.

  If you wish to amend your Bank / Building Society account details, you will need to notify the Dyfed Pension Fund. For security reasons, we cannot accept any change in Bank / Building Society details over the telephone.

  This can be done easily within your My Pensions Online account, or you can notify the Fund in writing.

  Please note

  Payroll closure normally falls around the 20th of the month, therefore any change of details received after this date will NOT become effective until the following month's payment.

• Revaluation

  Benefits put into payment under the FPS 1992 are increased in accordance with Pensions (Increase) Acts and Orders.

  Any increase due is paid with immediate effect on ill-health pensions and pensions for surviving partners and eligible children. Otherwise it would be put into payment at or after age 55 when the pension to which it relates is put into payment.

  In the case of deferred benefits, the increase would accrue from the day after the date of leaving the FPS 1992 and paid when the deferred pension is paid.
