Fire Pension Scheme

Scheme Protection

All members that are not protected will have transferred into the FPS 2015 on 1 April 2015.

If, as of 1 April 2012, you were within 10 years of your Normal Pension Age under the FPS 1992 i.e. born before 1 April 1967 and as of 1 April 2012, aged 45 or over, you will see NO change in when you can retire, or any decrease in the amount of pension you will receive at your current Normal Pension Age. If this is the case, you are deemed to be a member with transitional protection and will therefore remain in the FPS 1992 and will NOT transfer to the FPS 2015.

There is a further 4 years of tapered protection for active members who, as of 1 April 2012, were up to 14 years from their current NPA under the FPS 1992 i.e. born between 1 April 1967 and 1 April 1971 and therefore aged between 41 and 45.

For further information on how the tapered protection will apply, please contact the Dyfed Pension Fund

Please Note

All accrued rights in the FPS 1992 are protected and those past benefits will continue to be linked to your final pensionable pay when you leave the FPS 2015.

However, if you are a tapered member, an enhancement will be applied to your protected FPS 1992 pension if you do not retire before your tapered protection end date and you therefore transfer to the FPS 2015. This increase will be applied to proportionally reflect the double accrual on your FPS 1992 service (after 20 years). Upon completion of 30 years service (FPS 1992 and FPS 2015 combined), your service under the FPS 1992 will be converted to 1/45ths (from 1/60ths).
