LGPS Benefit Statement - Notes of Guidance 202019/08/2020
As an active member of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), your Annual Benefit Statement for 2020 will be published by 31st August 2020. Please note that the values quoted within your statement will NOT include your in-house Additional Voluntary Contribution (AVC) fund.
Hard Copy Statement
If you have made a written election to receive a hard copy of your statement, the booklet under the link at the foot of the page will provide you with the necessary notes of guidance to explain the various sections of the statement. It has been prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Occupational and Personal Pension Schemes (Disclosure of Information) Regulations 2013 and the relevant Scheme regulations. However, these notes cannot cover every personal circumstance and in the event of any dispute over your statement, the appropriate legislation will prevail. They do NOT confer any contractual or statutory rights and are provided for information purposes only. Please refer to these notes whilst carefully reading your statement.
My Pension Online (MPO) Statement
If you have registered to the My Pension Online service, your benefit statement for 2020 will become available for you to view under the Annual Benefit Statements section, while the necessary Notes of Guidance booklet can be found at the foot of the page. If you are unable to log in to the service, please contact the Dyfed Pension Fund.
Topping up your Benefits
If appropriate, you should have already received a separate statement in respect of your Additional Voluntary Contribution (AVC) arrangement directly from your respective in-house provider, either Prudential, Standard Life or Utmost Life & Pensions. If this is not the case, please contact the Dyfed Pension Fund.
This year’s Annual Benefit Statement provides an estimate of your pension benefits accrued in your current scheme membership to 31/03/2020. Any projections on your pension entitlement are also based on the assumption that your current membership will continue until your Normal Pension Age.
Please also note that on the 20th December 2018, the Court of Appeal ruled in McCloud/Sargeant that the transitional arrangements introduced as part of the 2015 reforms to the Firefighters’ and Judges’ pension scheme were discriminatory and, therefore, unlawful. The Government subsequently accepted that this ruling applied to all the main public service pension schemes and is currently working on removing this discrimination to all affected scheme members. This work is complex and will take time. For further information please see the Written Ministerial Statement from 25th March 2020:
At this stage there is still uncertainty around the final approach to removing this discrimination. Unfortunately, this means that it has not been possible to reflect the impact of the Court of Appeal ruling in this year’s Annual Benefit Statements.
