LGPS Benefit Statement 2023

17/08/2023

As an active or deferred member of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), your Annual Benefit Statement for 2023 will be published by 31st August 2023.  Please note that the values quoted within your statement will NOT include your in-house Additional Voluntary Contribution (AVC) fund.

Hard Copy Statement

If you have made a written election to receive a hard copy of your statement, the booklet under the link at the foot of the page will provide you with the necessary notes of guidance to explain the various sections of the statement.  It has been prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Occupational and Personal Pension Schemes (Disclosure of Information) Regulations 2013 and the relevant Scheme regulations.  However, these notes cannot cover every personal circumstance and in the event of any dispute over your statement, the appropriate legislation will prevail.  They do NOT confer any contractual or statutory rights and are provided for information purposes only.  Please refer to these notes whilst carefully reading your statement.

My Pension Online (MPO) Statement

If you have registered to the My Pension Online service, your benefit statement for 2023 will become available for you to view under the Annual Benefit Statements section, while the necessary Notes of Guidance booklet can be found at the foot of the page.  If you are unable to log in to the service, please contact the Dyfed Pension Fund.

Topping up your Benefits (active members only)

If appropriate, you should have already received a separate statement in respect of your Additional Voluntary Contribution (AVC) arrangement directly from your respective in-house provider, either Prudential, Standard Life or Utmost Life & Pensions.  If this is not the case, please contact the Dyfed Pension Fund.

If you wish to consider paying additional contributions to top up your pension benefits, further information can be found by referring to the Increasing your Benefits index under the Members section.

Please Note

When the LGPS changed from a final salary to a career average pension scheme in 2014, protections for older scheme members were introduced (referred to as an Underpin). Similar protections were provided in other public sector pension schemes. The Court of Appeal ruled that younger members of the Judges’ and Firefighters’ Pension schemes have been discriminated against because the protections do not apply to them. The Government has confirmed that there will be changes to all main public sector schemes, including the LGPS, to remove this age discrimination. This ruling is often called the McCloud judgment.

The Government is still considering exactly what changes need to be made to remove the discrimination from the LGPS. This means it has NOT been possible to reflect the impact of the judgment in your annual benefit statement this year. If you qualify for protection, it will apply automatically - you do not need to make a claim.

For more information about the McCloud judgement, please see the frequently asked questions on the national LGPS website.
